Kursa is a Latvian summer school that was founded in 1974 to teach Latvian language and culture. Each day begins with grammar, history, folk dancing, and singing classes. After lunch, student participate in study hour and handiwork
Ezers_sm
classes before evening dinner and activities. Most students are of high school age (14-18 years old).
Kursa is one of the West Coast Latvian Education Center programs located just outside of Shelton, WA.

Draudzīgais aicinājums


The Latvian national day to remember schools, Draudzīgais aicinājums is an event that Kursa has held annually for the last 29 years. This is held usually at the end of January or the begining of February, since the actual holiday is January 28th.
This year the event will occur on Sunday, 29. January at 11:45am after church. Indra Ekmane will lecture on, "The Sound of Protest: How Latvian Culture Impacted Nonviolent Resistence During Soviet Occupation". Indra is a student at University of Washington's Jackson School of International Studies as well as counselor and student at Kursa.
