The History of Kursa

Edvīns Rūsis, Kursa graduate, later also a counselor and volunteer during the construction of the first buildings on site – shares the history of Kursa's first years at a rented location, along with the history of the development of Kursa's own property, today the West Coast Latvian Education Center.

Kursa was founded in 1973 and welcomed students for the first academic summer in 1974. In the early years, the school's premises were rented elsewhere.

In 1983, in order to have a permanent place for the Kursa Summer High School, our current property was purchased and became the West Coast Latvian Education Center.

The children's camp Mežotne joined WCLEC.
