Greetings in 2026!
Summer is once again visible on the horizon, staff are already signing up to return, and we are moving forward. I am writing to share the most important information about Kursa in the summer of 2026, including arrival dates, travel planning, and registration.

Registration
Registration for Kursa will open on February 1st on Active Camp
Through February 15th, the “Cīrulis” (early bird) discount will be available, again a 5% discount. The code is: CIRULIS2026
Start and end dates
July 5: arrival and move-in day. This allows everyone to celebrate the 4th of July together with their families! Arrival time will be from noon.
Monday, July 6: settling in and orientation day; those who were in Grand Rapids for the Song Festival will arrive.
Tuesday, July 7: School begins!
Saturday, August 1: Graduation and Closing Ceremony; approximately 1.5 hours, with final packing (folk costumes!) and clean up. Everyone must be out of the dorms by 3:00 pm.
Flights to and from Kursa
We would like to note that flights from Grand Rapids to Seattle over the July 4th weekend tend to be significantly more expensive. However, for those interested in flying together, we have identified two possible options to fly with Kursa staff members.
1. Departing from Grand Rapids in the morning at 7:30; arriving in Seattle at 11:40 in the morning, then arriving at Kursa in the early afternoon, allowing time to settle in before classes the next day.
United Airlines Flight no.: UA 2099 2. Departing from Grand Rapids at 7:20 in the evening, arriving in Seattle at 10:46 in the evening. Arrival at Kursa will then be late at night around 1:30 a.m.
Sun Country Flight no.: SY1914; SY289 (this may be booked as one flight).
3. We have found that flights home on August 1st are best scheduled no earlier than 7:00 p.m., allowing students enough time for travel to the airport (2.5–3 hours) and departure preparations. If this is not possible, please contact us.
2026 Kursa Team
We are happy to announce that all subject teachers are planning to return this year, as well as half of the counselors from the summer of 2025. This ensures both continuity and an experienced team in Kursa’s daily life, ready once again to work with Kursa students!
And this winter: remote language classes
If anyone would still like to join Latvian remote language classes with teachers from Latvia (in cooperation with the Latvian Language Agency), they will resume in February. Classes are offered at every language level; please write back if you would like additional information: admin@kursa.org
With sincere regards,
Māra Pelēcis
